Cycling Industries Europe (CIE) is an advocacy voice for cycling businesses in Europe. Our ambition is to grow cycling in Europe, for the benefit of society and the benefit of cycling businesses. Cycling Industries Europe brings together leading experts and companies from across the globe representing the entire supply chain, from bicycle and parts makers to bike sharing, cycle logistics, online services, financial services, infrastructure, tourism and consultancy. CIE offices are located in the EU area in Brussels.

Description

With the EU stepping up activities and policies to grow cycling, CIE is looking for a trainee to support our policy and advocacy activities. This is a role best suited for a recent graduate interested in pursuing a career in European public affairs with a focus on mobility, industry, and climate policies. The candidate will support CIE’s team in Brussels by carrying out policy research, monitoring, and analysis, as well as CIE’s Expert Group work in Sustainability, Market intelligence, Innovation and Bike Share. This is an exciting opportunity with the recent adoption of an EU Declaration on Cycling supporting the growth of the European cycling industry.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support for work of CIE’s Expert Groups (CSR & Sustainability, Market intelligence, Innovation and Bike Share), such as assisting with drafting of position papers, scheduling meetings and taking meeting minutes.
  • Research and monitor activities of the EU Institutions, European associations, NGOs, think tanks, agencies, and media.
  • Drafting reports and briefings on EU policy developments and initiatives on industry, climate, mobility and environmental policies.
  • Attending and reporting on policy conferences and webinars by EU institutions and stakeholders.
  • Support with CIE communications work and policy campaigns.
  • Support the organization of webinars, external meetings, workshops and events.
  • Create and update databases, surveys and mailing lists.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Excellent research skills and capacity to report about complex policy issues in plain and concise language.
  • Excellent oral and written English; other European languages advantageous.
  • Strong slide-making and oral presentation skills.
  • Hardworking, motivated, stress-resilient and proactive attitude.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Zoom, Mailchimp, SurveyMonkey or similar.  
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • A reliable, flexible and responsible team player with an ability to multitask.
  • Thrives in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong interest in cycling and related policy/public affairs areas, such as mobility, sustainability, and industry, is an asset.
  • Legally allowed to work in Belgium and commute to CIE’s office in Brussels.
  • Available to start from mid-July 2024.
