The Batteries Expert Group serves as the technical vanguard for the cycling industry’s transition to a circular and regulated battery economy. Because energy storage is paramount to the future of mobility, this expert group ensures that the implementation of European policies related to e-bike batteries is both ambitious and achievable.
The group aims to bridge complex environmental legislation and the cycling industry's practical needs. By providing a platform for technical exchange, it ensures that new requirements (concerning design, durability, transparency, recycling, etc) continue to strenghten the industry’s competitive edge, all while guaranteeing that high-performance battery technology and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
OBJECTIVES
- Providing expert guidance on the implementation of the EU Battery Regulation to ensure a smooth transition for the entire sector.
- Actively shaping secondary legislation and official guidelines to ensure they remain practical for diverse cycling products.
- Championing balanced rules for the removability and replaceability of components to support a longer product lifespan.
- Developing industry-wide positions on the "Battery Passport" and data transparency.
- Coordinating the industry's response to waste management, collection targets, and the handling of chemical substances.
- Serving as the primary forum for members to share intelligence and align on the technical future of light-means-of-transport (LMT) batteries.
