The area that I’m responsible for (active mobility and universal accessibility) has two branches. One branch its infrastructure and the other is communication and education. The approach in active mobility and universal accessibility in the municipality of Guadalajara is all about developing physical projects (hard infrastructure) being complemented by educational and promotion campaigns (soft infrastructure).
I believe that the strength of this area is the multilevel approach that we follow. We develop projects of infrastructure, which later become programs, and end up as public policies. The benefit of transforming each project in public policies is that we ensure a long-term transformation, even if the politic party changes (that has to change every 3 years), the regulation and policies wont.
As a global city, Guadalajara participates in many initiatives. We are part of the Global Network for Road Safety (WRI, Bloomberg, Vital Strategies, etc.), collaborate in many infrastructure projects with SEDATU and Vital Strategies, public space development partnerships with “Place Making”, Gender inclusion programs (ONU) and many more. We intend to keep up with the global trends and establish strong networks with other cities to share good practices.
